`New to Organic Passion, but not new to Passions Network. I eat orgsanic because I care about the planet and about my body. The same two reasons, in the same order, as my reasons for being vegetarian.
But note that my concept of "organic" is a bit different from the official definition. I think in terms of food grown in an ecologically sustainable manner, that leaves room for the rest of the ecosystem, and is therefore free of toxic chemicals, hormones, and antibiotics (not that hormones or antibiotics are part of a vegetarian's life anyway). But I am still struggling to understand people's reasons for being opposed in principle to GMOs. All the specific problems that have occurred due to GMOs seem to me solvable problems (for example, don't use genes from known allergens); and the excuse that "We don't know the long-term effects" doesn't really hold up -- we don't know the long term effects of your being born, either, but that does not mean we should be opposed to it. Could someone opposed to GMOs please summarize the *evidence* for a *systemic* problem that cannot be solved by more careful management? Because organic farms, too, use intensive, high-tech management nowadays.
